Galaxy Pegasus Takes Out Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes

Classy three-year-old Galaxy Pegasus has secured without doubt his most impressive race win to date at Moonee Valley this afternoon, displaying a keen turn of foot in the final straight to take out the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) in a photo finish.

Jumping from the gates well, the War Pass colt settled in prime position within the pack; allowing early leaders Bullpit, Glenrowan Prince and Law to set a noticeably quick tempo over the back straight and rounding the bend.

Offered a clear line down the outside upon reach the final straight, Galaxy Pegasus steadily spooled up and charged towards the race’s leaders, poking clear of Nicoscene and sustaining a strong enough sprint to withstand a late charge from Law.

Champion jockey Damien Oliver delivered a perfectly-timed ride on Galaxy Pegasus in the 2014 Red Anchor Stakes and immediately laid the praise on his talented partnered after crossing the line.

“He’s a magnificent type and he’s going to develop into a beautiful horse I think,” Oliver said following the race.

“He’s still putting it together and I was a bit scared by Law that flew through on the inside but he managed to hold him off.

“The track is perfect.”

Trainer David Hayes was understandably pleased with Galaxy Pegasus’s performance for victory in the 2014 Red Anchor Stakes and confirmed the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) on November 15th figures as the major target heading forward.

“He’s heading towards the Sandown Guineas hopefully via the Carnival Handicap at Flemington,” Hayes said following the race.

“I’ll have a chat to Damien; I think he more star-gazed rather than stopped at the end of that race.

“I love his length; he’s got wonderful length which suggests he should get out over a bit of ground.”

Adding a third victory to his short four race career in taking out the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes this afternoon, Galaxy Pegasus charged home to win the Winter & Taylor Isuzu Maiden (1100m) by seven lengths on debut, and while unable to match the late pace when tenth in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on September 13th, returned to the winner’s circle in the Scott Pickett BM64 (1107m) in his only other start prior to the Red Anchor takes on September 29th. is currently offering the best odds on all major races remaining in the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival!
