Securing an impressive race record of eight wins and a further 14 minor places from his 38 competitive appearances on course so far, Side Glance stamped his claims as one to watch from his maiden racing preparation in late 2009; winning the Newmarket Maiden Stakes (1207m) on debut before finishing a close second to Fremont in the Novice Stakes (1408m).

Continuing to build in form and class through a 2010 campaign which was arguably highlighted by a close second to Redford in the Challenge Cup (1408m) at Royal Ascot in September, the Passing Glance gelding hit peak form over a memorable 2011 campaign; finishing outside the places just twice in seven appearances and winning all of the Listed Paradise Stakes (1609m), Listed Royal Windsor Stakes (1670m) and Group 3 Sovereign Stakes (1609m) most notably.

Again finishing outside the places just twice in eight competitive starts through 2012, highlighted by a win over classy company in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes (1713m) and third behind equine superstar Frankel in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes (1609m), Side Glance has arguably found career-best form since becoming a globetrotter at the beginning of 2013.

Running on for fourth in each of the Group 1 Jebel Hatta (1800m) and Group 1 Dubai World Cup (2000m) in the middle east, the gelding out of Averami continued to gain momentum on his way to a maiden victory at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival after finishing sixth in the Cox Plate.

Carrying impressive form into this year’s edition of the Cox Plate having finished third in the Group 1 United Nations Stakes (2212m), Group 1 Million XXXII Stakes (2011m) and Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) most recently, can Side Glance secure a second Group 1 title in Australia this weekend, or will one of his classy rivals find the line in the clear?
