Gypsy Diamond Headlines 2014 Eliza Park International Stakes Field

12 mares will run over the mile in the Group 3 Eliza Parks International Stakes (1600m) this Saturday at Moonee Valley Racecourse, following Wednesday’s final field & barrier draw announcement.

Continuing to headline the Cox Plate Day supporting race is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Gypsy Diamond, who received a big boost in her winning chances when drawn in barrier one.

The four-year-old mare will enjoy the inside run with James McDonald in the saddle, which will help counter her top weight of 59kg, up to five kilos heavier than the rest of the field.

This is the most weight Gypsy Diamond will carry in her 18 career starts (up two kilos from her last start) following a Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) win and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf (1600m) second back in April.

The mare hasn’t been in-form during her spring campaign, failing to make an impression in any of her four starts, including a second-last finish in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) in September. It was determined weight-for-age might be too hard for Gypsy Diamond, so she will make the return to handicap racing.

Tango’s Daughter, third in the Listed Hussler Stakes (1400m) last time out, will start from midfield after drawing barrier seven with Craig Newitt to ride.

The four-year-old mare will also have to manage with a weight increase, after going up to 57.5kg from 54kg.

Nigel Blackiston remains dually represented in the race by You’re So Good and Suavito.

You’re So Good will jump from barrier nine while Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) third Suavito will get a good start from barrier four with champion jockey Damien Oliver in the saddle.

Reckless Assassin is making her black type racing debut after 18 minor race starts. She’s been issued a challenge following a draw from the widest gate (12) with Glen Boss to ride.

Luke Oliver’s Jessy Belle will start from the middle of the field in barrier six while Heath ConnersRefer will enjoy a start from barrier two with Tommy Berry in the saddle.
