The Nivison 2014 Final Field & Barrier Draw

A maximum field of 14 mares is set to contest the Group 3 City Tattersalls Club Nivison (1200m) at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday, headlined by Avoid Lightning.

The Les Bridge-trained mare will jump from midfield after drawing barrier seven with usual jockey Tim Clark to ride.

Avoid Lightning has yet to have a spring start however she was impressive in autumn/winter, taking out three wins and a further two placings.

The Listed June Stakes (1100m) winner was last seen in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse in June.

She jumped out the gate well, easing across to be one off the fence midfield. She tracked Red Tracer all the way, got off her back and charged down the straight. Ultimately she missed out on a win to Cosmic Endeavour by just a neck.

This run has not been forgotten, even though it was four months ago, and she tops The Nivison 2014 final field following a barrier trial earlier this month on the course proper, which she won with Clark.

My Sabeel and I’ve Got The Looks will both take their spots on the field following solid spring campaigns, and could be tough competition for a field that hasn’t seen much work since winter.

Kevin Moses’ My Sabeel will be Avoid Lightning’s biggest rival following placings in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) and Golden Pendant (1400m) from her two last starts while the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained I’ve Got The Looks was a fast-finishing fifth in her two spring black type races.

Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller has two runners in the field – She’s Clean and Kristy Lee.

She’s Clean will have to overcome a wide start from barrier 11 with Joshua Parr in the saddle. The six-year-old was last seen in the Tattersall’s Tiara but she didn’t fare as well as Avoid Lightning, finishing 14th.

Kristy Lee will enjoy the inside run with Jason Collett on her first step-up to black type racing. The five-year-old has tasted plenty of success in handicap racing but will now be tested against her peers.

Kris Lees will also be represented by two mares in The Nivison – Hera and Brook Road.

Group 2 Tristam Classic (2000m) winner Hera has drawn barrier four with Robert Thompson to ride but the mare will have to overcome a top weight of 58kg, which is up to four kilos heavier than her rivals.

Brook Road will also enjoy an easy start after drawing barrier five with Brenton Avdulla to ride.
