Star Fashion Takes out 2014 Ladies Day Vase

Autumn Group 1 placegetter Star Fashion has continued her perfect 2014 Spring Racing Carnival start at Caulfield this afternoon, completing an exceptional rails run to win the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) with relative ease.

Jumping from the gates well, Star Fashion settled well within the pack of 16, allowing early leaders Keep De Rose, Forever Loved and You’re So Good to set a fair tempo over the back straight and rounding the bend.

Blocked for a run on the rails upon reaching the final straight, jockey Michael Walker found a narrow passage between runners and shot to the front, pulling clear and sustaining a strong enough sprint to withstand a late charge from Lady Cumquat; Suavito running on for third.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig was at Caulfield to witness Star Fashion’s impressive victory in the 2014 Ladies Day Vase and outlined the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day and Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) as likely to be the next points of call.

“We really appreciated the support from Oliver Wong (owner); he’s a really good supporter of the stable and she was supposed to go to Hong Kong but she failed the vet and thankfully for us she’s come and won these two races, so she’s in great form,” Dabernig said following the race.

“Obviously she’s got a great pedigree and she was thereabouts as a three-year-old but it’s really clicked.

“It was a terrific ride; Mike was really riding with his tail up today so it was a good effort.

“We might look at the Myer and then possibly the Matriarch.”

Jockey Michael Walker delivered a polished ride on Star Fashion in the 2014 Ladies Day Vase and was quick to lay the praise of trainer David Hayes and Tom Dabernig and his classy partner, immediately after dismounting.

“Just lucky enough David has trained the horses to the minute and I’m just the passenger, just cruising along,” Walker said.

“I thought even though she was second-up and her second-up form’s not good; she’s come up good and I thought she could win, so I rode her like the best.”

Punters who backed Star Fashion to win the 2014 Ladies Day Vase at will be taking advantage of a payout at exceptional $16 odds.
