The Group 3 The Nivison (1200m) is due to run as Race 1 at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday, October 18.

Headlining the classy field of mares is the Les Bridge-trained Avoid Lighting. The six-year-old has not been seen on the field in spring, with her last start coming from the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), in which she was a fast-finishing third.

Her two starts before that were wins, including the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Randwick.

Tim Clark partnered the mare in a barrier trial on October 3, which the pair won ahead of nine runners.

Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller leads the nominations with three entries – Just A Girl, Kristy Lee, and She’s Clean, who has failed to place in any of her last five starts including the Tattersall’s Tiara and Listed Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m).

Peter & Paul Snowden also have three mares nominated for the 2014 The Nivision, though not all may line up as the race has a field limit of 14 plus four emergencies.

I’ve Got The Looks has the most experience, but failed to produce a rewarding run in either of her last two starts. The mare finished fifth in both the Group Two The Shorts (1100m) and Premiere Stakes (1200m) while Rose Of Choice was runner-up her last time out, but hasn’t run since January.

Gai Waterhouse and Kris Lees each have two mares nominated. Waterhouse’s Exceleine had an eight month break from the field before returning for a win in October while Lees’ Brook Road has placed in four of her last five starts, including two wins.
