2014 Ladies Day Vase Final Field & Barrier Draw

A final field of 16 mares plus two emergences will run in the Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse this Wednesday.

Forever Loved will start from barrier 10 in the Ladies Day Vase on Wednesday, October 15.

Headlining the classy field of four-year-old and up mares is the Lance Noble-trained Viadana from New Zealand.

The seven-year-old will carry the top weight of 59kg and jockey Craig Williams will have his work cut out for him after the pair drew the widest barrier to jump from.

Viadana has enjoyed success at the highest level numerous times, including in the Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders (1600m) in April, which followed a Group 2 Japan Trophy (1600m) win.

The mare proved too good in the NZ T’Bred Breeders, cruising home to a two length victory.

However she’s failed to recreate this success in her three outings since, finishing middle of the field in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf (1600m) before finishing end of the field in both the Group 3 Foxbridge Plate (1200m) and Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m).

Craig Williams will ride Viadana for just the third time, though the pair did take out a barrier trial last week by 3.5 lengths, which implies good things for their 2014 Ladies Day Vase run.

The Pat Hyland-trained Bonaria is another leading runner, who will start from the easier fourth gate with Michael Rodd to ride.

Danny O’Brien’s Keep De Rose, also from New Zealand, will enjoy the inside run after drawing barrier one.

This will be just the fourth black listed race for the five-year-old mare, who hasn’t enjoyed a placing since November 2013 in the Group 2 Momentum Energy Stakes (2000m).

Bonaria will not partner with usual jockey Craig Williams in the race, with Nicholas Hall set to ride instead.

Gai Waterhouse’s Forever Loved enters the race a last-start winner after finding victory in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington Racecourse on October 4.

The four-year-old delivered a great run, considering she’d backed up from a dead-last finish in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) a fortnight earlier. She has drawn barrier 10 with Vlad Duric to ride again but will also carry the second-heaviest weight at 58kg.

Forever Loved is still on track for the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) next month.

Peter Moody will have a trio of runners, represented by Dig A Pony (barrier seven), Metaphorical (15), and Spirit of Heaven (three), however none have jockeys yet.

Spirit Of Heaven has won four of her ten career starts, although this will be her first black listed race.
