There are 12 horses in the field for the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) which is being billed as a mini-Cox Plate, running as Race 6 at 3:55pm (AEDST).

Four of the hopefuls are single figure bets in the latest Caulfield Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au with Dissident leading the market at $4.20.

The Peter Moody-trained horse will jump from the middle of the field with Ben Melham as jockey. Dissident has great form heading into the 2014 Caulfield Stakes, with two Group One wins and a second to his name from spring racing alone, but this will be his first real test at 2000m after winning over the mile, which some are doubting he can do.

Also available for single figures in the Caulfield Stakes betting is Sacred Falls ($4.60), Fawkner ($5.50), and Happy Trails ($7.50).

Will the single figure hopefuls make it home? Or will one of the many runners offering double digit odds cause an upset?

1st

#10 Dissident ($4.20)

Dissident has gone from strength to strength as a four-year-old winning two Group One races – the Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m). He was a close runner-up in his third, the Sir Rupert Clarke Charity Cup (1400m), despite running with a big weight. Is ready to make the step up in distance.

2nd

#11 Dear Demi ($10)

The iron mare that keeps performing each and every season. A rails run with Jim Cassidy to ride from barrier one should help her keep up with the boys and bring it home. A winner her last time out in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) and a second before that in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m).

3rd

#1 Sacred Falls ($4.60)

Has an outstanding record at 1600m but has yet to prove as successful at 2000m. His last run at the trip saw him finish second behind It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) so he should easily find himself in the money here. However the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) winner his last time out will need to overcome a start from the widest gate.
