2014 Angst Stakes Betting Tips

The key supporting race on Spring Champion Stakes Day at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday is the Group 3 McGrath Estate Agents Angst Stakes (1600m), for which betting tips are detailed below.

There are 11 mares in the field for Saturday’s 2014 Angst Stakes, running as Race 7 at 4:50pm (AEDST), following the scratching of Peter Moody’s Spirit Of Heaven.

Four of the runners are single figure bets in the Angst Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, which are led by Neena Rock for $3.10.

The six-year-old John Sargent-trained mare will enjoy a start from barrier four with Tye Angland to ride. She’s a notorious placer with four wins, six seconds, and one third from her 16 career starts, however her recent form has faltered a bit following a second-last finish in the Group 1 Easter Handicap (1600m) during the autumn racing season. She missed out on a placing her last time out in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) by less than half a length, so punters are still getting behind her.

The three other single figure hopefuls for the race include Gypsy Diamond ($4.20), Chintz ($5.50), and Bouzy Rouge ($9.50).

Will the four single figure hopefuls dominate the field? Or will one of the runners offering lucrative double figure odds make it home?

#6 Bouzy Rouge ($9.50)

This seven-year-old mare heads to Randwick in great form following three wins from her last five starts including the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m). She just missed out on a placing in her other two starts, including the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m), in which she started wide from barrier 10. The mare tends to be successful from middle barriers, so her start from gate five should help her finish in the money.

#8 Saigon Tea ($13)

Chris Waller’s five-year-old is another runner heading to the Angst Stakes in good form. Saigon Tea has won two of her last five starts, and finished runner-up in the remaining three, though they were all minor races. This notorious stayer will need to quicken around the straight faster though as she steps down to the mile here.

#3 Neena Rock ($3.10)

Money is coming in for the favourite here, with Neena Rock’s price shortening from $4.40 to $3.10 over the last few days. She’s the market mover of the field following two good runs her last time out in black type races. She finished with a minor placing in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) before missing out on the Golden Pendant by half a length.
