2014 Angst Stakes Odds Update

A field of 11 mares will run the 2014 Angst Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse after the scratching of Peter Moody’s Spirit Of Heaven, who drew wide in barrier 12.

The Group 3 McGrath Estate Agents Angst Stakes (1600m) is the supporting race on Spring Champion Stakes Day this Saturday, for which Neena Rock is the favourite. Ladbrokes.com.au is offering odds of $3.70 for the mare, ahead of three other single figure hopefuls.

The John Sargent-trained mare is the market mover of the field. With lots of money coming in for the six-year-old she has shortened from $4.40 to her current price of $3.70.

The mare has placed in 11 of her 16 starts, which is a 69% place rate and the highest of the field. Her recent form has been fair, with a third placing in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) last month before missing out by just half a length in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m).

There are three other single figure betting prospects battling for favouritism in the 2014 Angst Stakes betting:

  • #1 Gypsy Diamond ($4.20) – The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained mare took home second in the Group 1 Queen Turf Stakes (1600m) back in April but her spring campaign has left much to be desired. Bottom three finishes in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Geo Main Stakes (1600m) has led connections to drop her down in class, but money is coming in for the experienced runner.
  • #2 Chintz ($5.50)  – Money is also coming in for Joseph Pride’s five-year-old. Her recent form is poor following end of the field finishes in both the Sheraco and Golden Pendant, but punters are trusting Chintz can turn it around.
  • #6 Bouzy Rouge ($9)  Luke Griffith’s seven-year-old is the final single figure hope in the betting market. She has won three of her last five starts, including the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) and just missed out on a placing in the other two. She will jump from barrier five.
