Earthquake Leads 2014 Thoroughbred Club Stakes Final Field

A final field of nine three-year-old fillies will line-up at the 2014 Thoroughbred Club Stakes this Saturday, the supporting sprint race on Guineas Day at Caulfield Racecourse.

John O’Shea’s Earthquake continues to lead the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) field, after drawing barrier four with Kerrin McEvoy to ride.

The Godolphin filly will carry the biggest weight of the race, 59kg, which is up to four kilos more than her rivals.

This is not surprising given the filly has placed in all seven of her career starts. The Group One winner was undefeated before April, where she finished runner-up in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m). Her spring campaign has been lacking, taking away two minor placings from her two Group Two starts.

She will return to Melbourne on Saturday for the first time since February, which may improve her winning chances.

The Pat Carey-trained Cristalina Lago will enjoy the rails run after drawing barrier one with Steven King to ride.

The filly placed in all four of her first minor starts before a midfield finish in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) last month.

Noel Doyle’s Aimee will jump from the middle after drawing barrier six with Steven Arnold to ride.

The Group 3 Ken Russell Stakes (1200m) winner missed out on a 2014 Thousand Guineas run after coming dead-last in the Prelude last month.

Hawkes Racing’s Group 3 Breeders Stakes (1200m) winner London Lolly will get a good start after drawing barrier two with Dwayne Dunn as jockey while the Brett Cavanough-trained Loved Up will start from the widest barrier.

The Peter Morgan & Craig Widdison-trained Eloping was the only nominated filly to not appear among the final field released Wednesday morning.

The Champagne Stakes winner will wait for the Listed Blue Sapphire (1200m) at Caulfield next Wednesday, October 15.
