2014 Angst Stakes Final Field & Barrier Draw

A final field of 12 four-year-old and up mares will ride in the 2014 Angst Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse this weekend, after five defected from Monday’s nominations.

The Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) is one of the supporting races on Spring Champion Stakes Day, Saturday October 11.

Headlining the classy field of mares is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Gypsy Diamond, who’ll jump from the middle of the field with Blake Shinn to ride.

The four-year-old mare performed well at the beginning of the year, winning the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) and finishing runner-up in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m). It’s of note that both races were run over the same Randwick course and distance as the Angst.

However Gypsy Diamond’s 2014 spring racing campaign hasn’t been as successful following a midfield Group 3 Toy Show Stakes (1300m) finish and two bottom three finishes in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Geo Main Stakes (1600m).

Her Carbine Club win came from a midfield jump as well, which could mean success for Gypsy Diamond in the 2014 Angst Stakes.

Kris LeesSoapy Star will enjoy the rails run after drawing barrier one with Kathy O’Hara to ride.

The five-year-old hasn’t had a win since December 2012 in the LF Signs Inglis Bonus (1514m), despite eleven competitive runs. Her last start was The Paslode (1350m) in which she was not able to make an impression at all, finishing dead last.

Peter Moody’s Spirit Of Heaven enjoyed a three-time handicap win from July/August but failed to place her last time out in the Dalziel Racing Tile Importer Handicap (1400m). Jockey Linda Meech will need to do a bit more work on her ride after the mare drew the widest barrier.

Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller remains dually represented by Forever Crazy (barrier three) and Saigon Tea (barrier seven), who both head to Randwick with good form from handicap wins and placings.

Joseph Pride’s Chintz will start wide in barrier eight with Tim Clark to ride.

The five-year-old enjoyed two Group One placings over the mile distance earlier in the year but her recent form hasn’t been as good.
