A huge day of racing is planned for Melbourne on Saturday for Caulfield Guineas Day, one of the eight Group status events on the program being the $150,000 Group 3 Sportingbet Sprint Series Final (1200m).

A bumper 22 mares have been nominated for the set weights plus penalties clash including Chruchill Downs five-year-old Girl Guide.

Last start the super-consistent and lightly-raced mare posted her sixth career win from eight starts defeating a top field in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) at the Caulfield track on September 20.

She’s now shooting for her third on the trot in Melbourne having also won a non-black type over 1200m at Moonee Valley the run before and will be well liked at Ladbrokes.com.au to make it a hat trick on the trot.

Also coming off a top three run in the How Now Stakes is the Robert Smerdon-trained local Dubawi mare Shamal Wind.

She was beaten a mere long neck in the race when third and could get the chance to turn the tables on Saturday.

Shamal Wind however is a dual nominee on the Caulfield race card having also been entered for the $200,000 Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m).

Also dually nominated for both the Schillaci Stakes and Sprint Series Final on Saturday is Girl Guide’s stable mate, the fellow Hayes & Daberning-trained Gregers.

The highest rated of the Sprint Series Final nominees, the classy Commands four-year-old won the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) in an upset at the track two back but was last seen finishing sixth to Commanding Jewel in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 13.

Other mares coming off nice lead-up form include Canberra raider Jacinta, the Jason Warren-trained Mornington mare Double Dee, last start winner at the track Vain Attraction, and the Peter Moody-trained duo of Angels Beach and Brilliant Bisc.

Moody has also nominated for River Delta coming off a third over 1440m here, before which the Al Maher four-year-old won three on the trot including over 1400m at Caulfield in April.

See below for the full Sprint Series Final 2014 nominations that will be cut to a capacity 16 starter field when final acceptances are taken on Wednesday.
