Chris Waller’s 2014 Epsom Handicap Triple Threat Ready to Go

Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller dominates this weekend’s racing at Royal Randwick Racecourse, with more than one entry set to run in six of the nine races.

His presence is especially noticed in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), for which he has four entries – Boban, Royal Descent, He’s Your Man, and Lucky Chappy.

Two days out from the iconic Group One contest, the trainer has given his ‘team’ the all-clear.

Speaking to TVN, Waller said all four of his runners were on target for the Epsom Handicap Day feature race.

“They are all very well,” he stated.

“Their last week’s training has gone to plan.

“They are rock-hard fit and where they should be.”

Waller is the trainer to beat come Saturday, seeing as he has three of the four single figure hopefuls in the latest fixed-odds betting market.

Royal Descent is the $4.40 favourite at followed by He’s Your Man ($6) and Boban ($7).

Epsom Handicap reigning champion Boban has finished middle of the field in all three of his last starts, including the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) last month, but a rails run could help improve his finish.

The gelding has also been doing plenty of equestrian work in the last few weeks, something Waller hopes will improve his form for Randwick.

“It’s a bit like a human doing yoga,” the trainer explained.

“It relaxes them and helps them to be flexible – builds the core muscles.

“It’s a complete change in training routine.”

Royal Descent has drawn wide in barrier 11 but three consecutive runner-up finishes puts him in perfect form heading to Randwick.
