There are 15 in the mix for the $500,000 Group 1 The Star Epsom Handicap (1600m) this year which is set to run as Race 7 at 4:00pm.

Of the five horses under double figures in the latest Epsom Handicap betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, the $4.40 top fancy is the Chris Waller-trained Royal Descent.

She’s drawn in barrier 11 with Hugh Bowman to ride and is one of four in the race for Waller who shoots for back-to-back wins having prepared Boban, a $7 chance to successfully defend his title, to win 12 months ago.

Along with last start George Main Stakes runner-up Royal Descent who is looking for her first win since the ATC Oaks last year and Boban, Waller’s other two hopes are Kingston Town Stakes winner He’s Your Man ($6) and one of the roughie’s of the pack Lucky Chappy ($41) who was fourth in that same lead-up.

Also at single figures to win then are Toydini ($6) who finished third to Boban last Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and market mover Laser Hawk in from $11 to $9 following a George Main Stakes third on September 20.

So will one of the top fancies take it out? And if so, in what order should you lock them in through [ladborkes] – home of the $500 bonus deposit bet bonus for new customers that quote the code SPRINGBONUS!

1st

#6 He’s Your Man ($6)

Waller won last year with a well-weighted last start winner and think he can do it again in 2014, this time with French import He’s Your Man. The six-year-old took out the Kingston Town Stakes at Rosehill three weeks ago and sees Randwick and the mile for the first time here. Drops down in distance, but historically that’s been good for Epsom winners. The drop from 56.5kg to just 52.5kg on Saturday is also advantageous. Was brilliant over 1500m winning the Winter Challenge two runs in to this campaign back in August and while this is a rise in class think he’s ready for the assignment.

2nd

#2 Royal Descent ($4.40)

She’s finished second in all three of her runs this time in and think that run could continue here. She hasn’t won since the Oaks in Sydney as a three-year-old but has come very close including to Hawkspur two back over this track and distance in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes, and to another stable mate Sacred Falls in the George Main a fortnight ago also over the 1600m at Randwick,. She’s had five runs over the mile for five seconds and four over the Randwick mile for four seconds so the form is outstanding. Has 55.5kg so does give some weight away to some exciting types.

3rd

#4 Laser Hawk ($9)

Early market mover for Joe Pride, comes via a run in the Espom’s most successful lead-up race when third in the George Main Stakes. Out wider in barrier 12 but that hasn’t been a disadvantage in recent years with six of the past 12 Epsom Handicap winners drawing 10 or wider. Was up front and only just beaten in the George Main over the closing stages so the drop back from 59kg there to 53.5kg on Saturday will be key to him running top three or better again.
