Edward Manifold Stakes 2014 Field Features Thinking Of You

Trainer Peter Moody has dually accepted for his Thousand Guineas bound filly Thinking Of You across two states this weekend including in the 2014 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington’s Turnbull Stakes Day in Melbourne.

An undefeated daughter of Thorn Park, three-year-old Thinking Of You is one of the headline final acceptors for the $200,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) that attracted 15 fillies this year.

She also is one of nine in the mix for the $400,000 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Sydney’s Royal Randwick where Tea Rose winner First Seal and runner-up Winx will face off again.

Moody indicated earlier this week that his preferred option for Thinking Of You was the Edward Manifold with an eye on the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m), also run in Melbourne at Caulfield Racecourse, the following weekend.

Travelling from Melbourne to Sydney for the Flight Stakes and then back to Victoria for the Guineas could prove a risk, with Thinking Of You only lightly raced and yet to face black type company.

She makes her Group debut then off the back of two September wins this Saturday and was last seen taking out a three-year-old fillies’ handicap by two and a half lengths a fortnight ago.

In the Edward Manifold Stakes however Thinking Of You, the $5.50 second pick in futures Thousand Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, faces a big field from a wide gate drawn in 12 with Luke Nolen to ride.

Three of her rivals in the Melbourne race also come off a last start win including the Mick Price-trained Royal Ocean (barrier seven).

The super-consistent Fastnet Rock filly raced in Adelaide first-up on September 13 over this distance and won the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m), an effort she’ll be looking to repeat in her home state this weekend.

The other last start winners race then the undefeated duo of Maastricht (barrier three) for Team Hawkes and Little Hottie (barrier six) who won on debut at Kyneton last week.

The next shortest priced of the Edward Manifold Stakes acceptors in the all-in Thousand Guineas odds after Thinking Of You meanwhile is the Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained local Not A Happy Camper ($15).

The top rated of the contenders meanwhile is the Brent Stanley-trained Northern Meteor filly Veuvelicious to be ridden by Damien Oliver from the outside barrier (15) as she looks to improve on a 14th to Thinking Of You last time out.

Robert Smerdon meanwhile has dual representation in the field with stablemates Fontein Ruby who was fifth to Thinking Of You on September 20 and black-type winner at the track during the winter Crafty both accepted.

Other notable hopes then include third placegetter to the likely favourite a fortnight ago Pittsburgh Flyer, Morphettville Guineas third placed Dane Hussler and the nicely-drawn Hipster Girl in gate two for Mornignton trainer Jason Warren.
