Four-year-old Cluster could be tested against the big guns of the 2014 Spring Racing period should trainer Peter Snowden decide to run the horse in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) on the final day of the 2014 Melbourne Cup carnival.
Cluster may have finished fifth his last time out in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Charity Cup (1400m) but it was a fast-finishing run that saw the horse impressively make up plenty of ground near the rail.
Coupled with a Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) win on September 13 and a Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1200m) second placing at the end of August, Cluster has given a solid performance during the spring season.
The bay horse will now be given five days in the paddock while his connections decide whether another run this campaign is on the cards.
“He is already on his way back to Sydney and then we will turn him out for five days,” Snowden said to TVN.
“I’ll have a look at him and see how he is after a nice little break and if I think he is capable of going again we will.
“If his look says to me that he has had enough, we will give him a long break.”
Snowden added that if Cluster is given another run this campaign, it’ll definitely be the Emirates Stakes Day feature race on November 8, where he’ll take on racing heavyweights the likes of Lankan Rupee, Buffering, and Slade Power.
“If we do race on, the Darley Classic up the straight on the final day of the Flemington carnival is the race that we would target.”
Cluster is currently a $26 odd in early Darley Classic betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Current favourite is Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) runner-up Lankan Rupee ($3.50) with early money also coming in for Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) winner Terravista ($4.60) and Hyland Race Colours Handicap first Deep Field ($6).
