Nominations were taken for the Listed Dulcify Quality Handicap (1800m) Monday morning, with a field of 13 three-year-olds declaring for the Royal Randwick event, seven shy of the 20 field limit.
Headlining the nominations is the Gerald Ryan-trained Bachman, who won back-to-back events during the 2014 Winter Racing period.
The colt didn’t perform as well on his first Spring Racing Carnival start, finishing bottom of the field in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) but his most recent start in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) last Saturday was a better run. He missed out on a placing by just under one length.
Paul Perry’s Scratch Me Lucky is another leading nominee for the Listed Handicap after failing to place in any of his three group spring starts.
The three-year-old finished middle of the field in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) back in August before getting clicked up early struggling in the Golden Rose on September 13, where he finished third-last.
Perry was confident the Snitzel colt could reclaim form in the Stan Fox, but he has never a threat and finished second-last.
Gai Waterhouse has dual nominations Duccio and Hampton Court set to run the 2014 Dulcify Quality Handicap.
Duccio finally took out his maiden win after coming third and second in the last two months. The three-year-old won the More Than Ready Plate (1550m) last Wednesday at Canterbury Park by just a short neck. The More Than Ready gelding has yet to step up beyond 1500m, which could be a disadvantage.
Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller will be represented in the race by Dynamic Rock and New Zealand colt Preferment.
The three-year-old Dynamic Rock won his maiden start at the beginning of September after debuting just a month earlier. He then missed out on a placing in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) a fortnight later by just half a length.
Other nominees for Saturday’s race include the Godolphin-owned Bracteate, who won his maiden in August before a runner-up performance in the Benchmark 65 Handicap (1300m), and the Patrick Webster-trained Deadset, who won his maiden on September 10.
Many of the runners will be looking for their post-maiden win in the 2014 Dulcify Handicap while others will be looking to atone for past missteps.
