2014 Yellow Glen Vintage Stakes Nominations Released

Nominations for the 2014 Vintage Stakes were taken Monday morning with 15 three-year-olds declaring for the race.

The Listed Yellow Glen Vintage Stakes (1400m) run at Flemington Racecourse is one of the eight supporting races for Turnbull Stakes Day on October 4.

Headlining the near-maximum field limit nominees are the Gai Waterhouse-trained Wandjina and Tale Of The Cat gelding Forgive And Forget.

Wandjina won his first start of the year, the Australian Turf Club Pro-Ride (1000m), by over three lengths before missing out on a placing by one in his next three starts.

The three-year-old was ordinary in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13 before missing out on a placing in Sunday’s Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) by just a neck.

Waterhouse will hope for a good barrier draw Wednesday to help the colt get a much-deserved win.

The David Haynes & Tom Dabernig-trained Forgive And Forget began his competitive racing career in May with a win in the Victorian Carbine Club Plate (1000m) at Flemington but has failed to place in his following three starts. His last out was in the Listed Living Legends Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago on the same course, but he failed to pose a threat finishing end of the field.

The training pair has another two horses entered for the 2014 Vintage Stakes – Listed Mt Dandenong Stakes (1200m) runner-up Petrology and Fastnet Rock colt Wilderness, who won his maiden plate at the beginning of August.

Stuart Kendrick’s Doomben Handicap winner Thief Of Hearts was also nominated for the Flemington Stakes, along with Matt Laurie’s Staviva and Leon & Troy Corstens’s Coram.

First acceptances and barrier draws for the 2014 Turnbull Stakes Day supporting race are due to be released Wednesday.
