Nominations for the 2014 Breeders’ Plate were taken on Monday, with a large field of 19 colts and geldings declaring for the sprint race.
The Listed Breeders’ Cup is a two-year-old colts and geldings set weights race, run over 1000m at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
With previous ATC Breeders Plate winners including Sebring and five-time Group 1 winning Pierro, punters should keep a watchful eye on the results of this sprint race to get an early favourite come next year’s autumn and winter racing carnivals.
Many of the top Australian trainers have entered at least one horse in the Plate, led by Chris Waller with three nominations.
Waller’s nominations include colts Stimac, Feast For Eyes, and Austrian who will all be running their first competitive race at Randwick on Saturday.
Feast For Eyes will likely be Waller’s strongest runner, having his last start on September 16 at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in a barrier trial, which he won by three-quarters of a length.
Gai Waterhouse is going international in her bid to earn a third consecutive Breeders’ Cup win, nominating gelding Brooklyn and colt Vancouver who both won their first barrier trials at Kensington Racecourse on September 22.
Peter & Paul Snowden also have two nominations to their name, in the form of colts Caro Kann and Wolf Cry.
Other potential runners include the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Moral Outrage, Paul Perry’s Last Witness, and Duvet from John O’Shea.
With a field limit of sixteen, three of the colts or geldings will become emergencies or need to be scratched in favour of another listed event.
All the details will be announced tomorrow on Races.com.au when the first acceptances and barrier draws for the 2014 Breeders’ Cup are released on Wednesday.
