Peter Snowden ‘Shooting’ For Win in 2014 Stan Fox Stakes

Peter Snowden believes his colt Shooting To Win will give an excellent run in the 2014 Stan Fox Stakes after displaying a special talent every time he’s out.

The three-year-old is due to tackle the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse at 3:05 PM Saturday, following a hard-fought third placing in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) worth $1 million at the same track a fortnight ago.

“He has always shown us well above average ability and now he’s starting to put it together,” Snowden told Racing Network.

“I expect him to run very well tomorrow – it’s the right sort of race for him,” he added.

The Northern Meteor colt is second-favourite in the Stan Fox betting market, with a price of $3.10 at

The Golden Rose second Scissor Kick is the odds-on favourite ($1.90) of the field of eight, which contains the likes of Gai Waterhouse’s Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) winning Valentia ($4.40), Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) runner-up Scratch Me Lucky ($21) and Paul Perry’s Modoc ($34) who will enjoy the lucrative rails after drawing barrier one.

Tim Clark will again partner Shooting To Win, after bringing him home for third in the Golden Rose.

The pair had a tough start out from barrier 11 in the Group 1, nearing the end of the pack for the first 1000m. They then tracked up the winner and flashed late to get into third spot, just one and a quarter lengths off Scissor Kick.

Snowden said his future plans for Shooting To Win would depend on how he performs in tomorrow’s race, which includes a tilt at the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

“The options are he’d either go to Melbourne for the Caulfield Guineas or go for a break, and we’ll make that call after he runs tomorrow,” he concluded.
