Dear Demi Takes Out 2014 Stocks Stakes

The Caulfield Cup odds of talented mare Dear Demi have been slashed after she upset Commanding Jewel to win the 2014 Stocks Stakes at Moonee Valley tonight.

Dear Demi was positioned just behind the leaders Solicit and Commanding Jewel in the early stages of the Stocks Stakes and tracked into the race beautifully coming around the bend.

Solicit kicked away from at the 250 metre mark and looked like the winner, while Commanding Jewel struggled, but Dear Demi finished strongly and claimed her first race win in over a year right on the line.

Jockey Jim Cassidy was aboard Dear Demi when she finished a close second behind Commanding Jewel in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) and the veteran jockey was delighted to be able to go one better in the Stocks Stakes.

“It was a good test for her tonight,” Cassidy said after the race.

“We had to ride her to suit her and not the track and with Ollie going forward that made it a bit easier.

“I knew that Solicit was going to be hard to run down, but my mare hit the line well.”

The Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) has always been the major 2014 Spring Racing Carnival goal for Dear Demi and the Dehere mare is set to contest the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11 before stepping up to 2400 metres for the Group 1 event at the home of the Melbourne Racing Club a week later.

Dear Demi has also been touted as a potential Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) contender, but owner John Singleton’s Racing Manager Duncan Grimley said that he is unsure whether the 2012 Crown Oaks winner would be able to earn a start in what is set to be a competitive edition of the Australasian Weight-For-Age Championship.

Dear Demi is currently available at 2014 Caulfield Cup odds of $12 with and you can find the best odds for all the major races during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival with the leading online bookmaker.
