One of Rosehill Garden’s feature races on the card this Saturday is the Stan Fox Stakes 2014, betting tips for the three year olds at set weights event are below.
Eight horses make up the field for the 3:05 PM Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) worth $200,000 after Gai Waterhouse confirmed Valentia over the longer-distance Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m).
Just three of the eight hopefuls are single figure bets in the latest Stan Fox Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au with Scissor Kick leading the market at $1.90.
Paul Messara’s in-form colt is a winner of three from five career starts after enjoying a hat-trick earlier this year.
The three-year-old took out wins in the More Than Ready Handicap (1250m), Listed The Rosebud (1200m), and Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes (1300m) in July and August before being beaten home to second in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) by Hallowed Crown.
Following Scissor Kick in the Stan Fox Stakes betting market are the Golden Rose third placing Shooting To Win ($3.10) and Waterhouse’s three-year-old Valentia ($4.40) who won the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) back in March.
Both Shooting To Win and Scissor Kick are using the Stan Fox as a lead-in to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) worth $1 million on October 11, so will need to deliver solid performances.
Will one of the single figure betting hopes take out the 2014 Stan Fox Stakes?
#1 Scissor Kick ($1.90)
Odds-on favourite for a reason, Scissor Kick has dominated the Stan Fox market. A winning hat-trick and second placing in the Group 1 Golden Rose leading into the Rosehill race should see the colt dominate the field. A run from a better gate (12) would have seen him win the Golden Rose, something he can atone for this weekend after drawing the much easier barrier 4.
#4 Shooting To Win ($3.10)
Money has been coming in for Peter & Paul Snowden’s Shooting To Win after the colt drew barrier 3 under Tim Clark. A top-three placer in his last two outs, including the Golden Rose and Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality Handicap (1400m), Shooting To Win should do well on the longer distance.
#5 Modoc ($34)
If you’re looking for an outside bet, Modoc is your horse. Valentia may be third-favourite in the fixed-odds market but after finishing just fifth in the Quality Handicap on his last time out, the colt will run from the wide barrier 7. Modoc may have finished middle of the field in the Group 3 Runto Rose (1200m) and Golden Rose, but a perfect start from barrier one (rather than nine or 15) should see the colt perform much better.
