2014 Moir Stakes Betting Update

Just five runners have been confirmed to line up for this Friday’s featured Group 1 Moir Stakes (1400m) at Moonee Valley Racecourse, offering punters great value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having returned to the track in scintillating form this year, the world’s current leading sprinter Lankan Rupee has opened as and maintained status as clear favourite for success in Moir Stakes betting markets, currently available at odds of $1.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Unable to string together much of a consistent run of form until his gelding at the conclusion of the 2013 autumn season, the son of Redoute’s Choice has since been close to unstoppable; claiming seven wins and two minors from his nine competitive starts.

Charging home to win the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) by four lengths first-up on February 8th, Lankan Rupee more than stamped his claims as Australian horse of the year when securing three impressive Group 1 victories back-to-back; taking out each of the Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and T.J. Smith Stakes.

Suffering a shock defeat to fellow Moir Stakes acceptor Angelic Light in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) first-up this time in, punters are yet to offer much more than a sprinkling of bets for Lankan Rupee to win Friday night’s feature, who has maintained a quote of $1.50 since markets first opened.

Finishing second to Samaready in the 2013 edition of the Moir Stakes before taking out each of the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) and Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), Buffering is also yet to experience much attention in 2014 Moir Stakes betting markets, but has maintained his position on the second line of betting at current $5.50 odds for success.

Securing an impressive total of 15 wins and 17 minor places from 42 appearances on track so far, Buffering was unable to reach the same highs as his standout 2013 spring over the 2013 Autumn Carnival, but did manage to place in each of the T.J. Smith Stakes, Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Trainer Robert Heathcote has been thrilled with the way the Mossman gelding has returned to work ahead of his racing return in the Moir Stakes, and arguably offers punters the best value for money in betting markets at current odds.

Returning to racing in smart form after nearly 18 months on the sidelines with a string of unfortunate injuries, Angelic Light will carry a race-low 56.5kgs in the 2014 Moir Stakes but has surprisingly drifted in betting markets, currently available at odds of $6.50 after opening at $6.

Finishing a close second to Platelet in the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) in her final appearance before injury, the Holy Roman Emperor mare returned to racing with a credible third in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) before arguably securing her most impressive win to date when pipping Lankan Rupee on the line in the McEwen Stakes on September 6th.
