Bring Me The Maid Tops 2014 Thousand Guineas Prelude Field

Peter Moody’s dual Group 2 winning filly Bring Me The Maid is the headline acceptor for Sunday’s Thousand Guineas Prelude 2014 at Caulfield Racecourse.

One of the key support races of Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day in Melbourne on the AFL Grand Final weekend, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Schweppes Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) features a dozen three-year-old fillies.

The best of those will back-up on October 11 at the track on Caulfield Guineas Day running in the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) up over the mile.

On Tuesday Racing Victoria took second declarations for the 2014 Thousand Guineas with 45 still in the mix including the early favourite Bring Me The Maid.

Third behind Mossfun and Earthquake in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) as a juvenile last season, the Sebring filly won the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up at Randwick on August 23.

She was disappointing then in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) when eighth to the undefeated Hallowed Crown.

That’s an effort the bookies are tipping her to improve on back against her own kind however with Bring Me The Maid the firm $3.60 favourite through in their futures Thousand Guineas odds.

Bring Me The Maid on Sunday gets a chance to secure her spot at the top of those all-in markets with a win in the Prelude where she jumps from an ideal barrier three draw with Luke Nolen staying on.

The next shortest priced Thousand Guineas Prelude acceptor in the markets for the Group 1 is then Pickin’ Time ($7) for former Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh.

She jumps from barrier six with Glen Boss in the saddle on Sunday and is out to break her maiden status at start number five.

The nicely-bred Fastnet Rock filly has finished top four in all her runs including last time out behind Thinking Of You over the 1400m at Caulfield in a fillies-only handicap last Saturday giving her just a week between runs.

Also well fancied at $11 to win the Thousand Guineas next month is Go Indy Go.

This weekend Leon Macondald & Andrew Gluyas’ Group 1 winning daughter of Bernardini races second-up after a failed effort when resuming in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on September 13.

That day she raced at Flemington against the boys and walked home 26 lengths off the winner Rich Enuff failing to beat home any other runner.

There were excuses however and the Champagne Stakes winner over the mile will be out to atone here as the Adelaide-based Go Indy Go sees Caulfield for the first time.

Other notable Thousand Guineas 2014 bound chances in the fillies Prelude then include Bel Esprit filly Afleet Esprit ($13) coming off back-to-back wins including in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes a fortnight ago, the Tony Gollan-trained Traveston Girl ($13) who was fourth in that same race at Flemington and Group 3 performer Novel Dancer ($17) for Cranbourne’s Shea Eden.

Also in the mix are the likes of Gold Coast-based Exceedingly Good filly Aimee drawn in the outside gate who has won five of her past six runs and the Chris Waller-trained Amicus up in class here after some promising runs.
