2014 Caulfield Guineas Prelude Final Field Features Rich Enuff

The final field & barrier draw for the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) was announced today, with 16 of the country’s most exciting three-year-old colts and geldings (plus two emergencies) confirming for this Sunday’s race at Caulfield Racecourse.

Leading the 2014 Caulfield Guineas final field is the Ken Keys-trained Rich Enuff, who must overcome a tough start in the outside barrier with the help of jockey Michael Rodd.

The Written Tycoon colt charged home to victory in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) his last time out as well as taking out the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) by over two lengths at the end of August.

Second to Rich Enuff in the Danehill Stakes by just a head, Looks Like The Cat has also confirmed for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas Prelude final field.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding delivered strong, consistent results during the Winter Racing Carnival, which saw the three-year-old finish runner-up in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) before claiming back-to-back third placings in the Group 2 Produce Stakes (1350m) and Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m).

Looks Like The Cat has been allocated the central barrier 9 in just his second Melbourne race. He’ll be partnered with regular jockey Damien Browne – who brought him home in his last four starts.

New Zealand colt Our Vespa will begin the 2014 Caulfield Guineas Prelude with a winning start after drawing barrier 1 and will again ride with regular jockey Mark Du Plessis.

The Johno Benner-trained three-year-old has enjoyed a hat-trick of wins in his last three outings, which included the $1 million Listed Karaka Million (1200m) and Challenge Stakes (1200m) as well as the Group 1 Diamond Stakes (1200m).

Godolphin’s current leading three-year-old Ghibellines has also confirmed for the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, but jockey James McDonald will need to work hard to overcome a tough start from barrier 15.

As will the classy John Moloney-trained Stingray, who drew the awkward barrier 13.

Many of the top contenders for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas Prelude have been given awkward or wide barriers, so this race could be an upset.
