2014 Thousand Guineas Second Acceptances Leave 45

A number of second declarations were taken today for Melbourne Spring Carnival including the 2014 Thousand Guineas.

Caulfield’s filly-only Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) had 86 fillies in the mix when first acceptances were taken early in September.

But today the market was cut to 45 after second acceptances were taken. The field has been noticeably reduced with 41 horses being cut.

Many of the leading fillies remain in contention, which means this year’s Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) worth $500,000 continues to be a showdown.

Held at Caulfield Racecourse on October 11, the Thousand Guineas is run on the same day as the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) worth $1 million, which attracted a second declaration of 55 horses itself.

Peter Moody’s Bring Me To The Maid continues to head the field despite a disappointing 8th place finish in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m), followed by Go Indy Go and Winx, who finished runner-up in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Go Indy Go dropped in the Ladbrokes.com.au betting market due to a dead-last finish in the Danehill Stakes (1200m), finishing over 25 lengths behind winner Rich Enuff on September 13th, but many punters are backing the filly to regain her form at Caulfield on October 11.

Notable non-acceptors at the second declaration stage include Earthquake and Peggy Jean, who won’t line-up at the Caulfield Guineas either following a last-place finish in the Tea Rose.

The New Zealand contingent remains much and the same, with the seven fillies from first declarations down to five. The only absences are Unfurl and Azkadellia.

Bring Me To The Maid, pre-second declaration $4.20 favourite Ladbrokes.com.au, is down to $3.60 and other top contenders have seen their prices cut. Winx has jumped to $5 second-favourite (from $7), Go Indy Go has been cut from $15 to $11, Afleet Esprit and Traveston Girl are down to $13 (from $17), while Amicus’s price has been slashed from $41 to $26.

Many of the fillies saw a drop in price following the market reopening, whether it be $1 or $20. Make sure you place your bets at Ladbrokes before they drop even more.

Yet to make your first deposit? You’re in luck! First depositors receive a boosted $500 bonus match bet at Ladbrokes.com.au when using bonus code: SPRINGBONUS. But this offer is only around for a limited time, so don’t hesitate.
