Rich Enuff Sustains Strong Sprint to Win Danehill Stakes

Clear punters’ pick Rich Enuff has secured without doubt his most impressive performance to date at Flemington this afternoon, displaying a keen turn of foot late to win the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) ahead of a talented field of three-year-olds.

Jumping from the gates well, Rich Enuff settled just off the pace of early leaders Wandjina and clear favourite Brazen Beau, who set a particularly quick tempo on the inside of the Flemington track.

Slowly building in speed, the Written Tycoon colt pulled clear of his closest rivals with 400m to run, maintaining a strong-enough sprint to withstand a late charge form smart Queensland gelding Looks Like The Cat; Ghibellines running on for third.

Trainer Ken Keys was delighted with Rich Enuff’s performance in the 2014 Danehill Stakes, underlining the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October as the major target this time in.

“He obviously was able to go forward – Michael (Rodd) before the race said he wasn’t going to drive him, was just going to help in the race,” Keys said.

“It’s going to be very interesting to see what Michael says, but on what I see 1400m onto the Guineas would be a really good option still.

“I think he’ll be ready for it, otherwise we’ll have to stop and freshen up.

“But we’ll go to the 1400m next, the Guineas Prelude and hopefully onto the Guineas.”

Jockey Michael Rodd delivered an excellent ride on Rich Enuff in the 2014 Danehill Stakes, laying all the praise on his classy partner.

“He’s just got this incredible acceleration,” Rodd said whilst still mounted on the three-year-old.

“What he did at the Valley, he just showed he can back it up, you know, it wasn’t a fluke and that’s what you like to see.

“I got left in front way too far out, but he’s not the sort of horse you can sit too long on; he loses concentration and he can turn his engines off and you have to keep his momentum going.

“Very impressive, so much upside and Kenny Keyes has got a really good horse here.” is currently offering the best odds on all races remaining at Flemington this afternoon!
