He’s Your Man Comfortably Wins Kingston Town Stakes

He’s Your Man has displayed an exceptional turn of foot in the final straight at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon, pulling clear to comfortably win the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) from outsiders Kingdoms and Deane Martin.

Jumping from the gates from the wide and awkward barrier 13 well, the Cape Cross gelding settled well within the pack, allowing early leader Greatwood to set a reasonable tempo early, around two lengths ahead of Laidback Larry and Mr O’Ceirin.

Finding the final straight with plenty to do, He’s Your Man quickly spooled up and charged forward with six of his competitors, pulling clear with 150m to run to find the line comfortably.

Trainer Chris Waller was pleased with He’s Your Man’s performance in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes and revealed his satisfaction in saddling on a firm racing surface following weeks of rain.

“It’s good to see him back on track, it’s been very frustrating for trainers, owners, punters in the last few weeks,” Waller said following the race.

“Today we took the gamble that he would settle a bit closer to the pace and he ended up with a beautiful ride which wins races, so it was good to see him show that acceleration after having a nice, easy run.

“We’re still learning about the horse – does he run 2400m, that’s what we now need to ask and what we need to find out, so that will determine where he will go.”

Jockey Hugh Bowman delivered an exceptional ride on the talented five-year-old in the Kingston Town Stakes, and believes He’s Your Man is capable of mixing it at the highest level of Australian racing with a little more work.

“He was perfect today – a bit more pace today and I was lucky to get to where I did from the wide draw,” Bowman said.

“Once I found the back of the favourite I thought I’m in good shape and thought I’ve done my job and it’s up to the horse now, and he didn’t disappoint.

“I’d like to see him switch off a bit more for 2400m, but if he can learn to do that the world is his oyster.

“He’s got a beautiful action and ran through the line. I feel this horse has got the class to aim higher, he just needs to settle a bit better early on.”
