Gollan Confident of Booming Return in Bobbie Lewis

Experiencing an impressive resurgence in form over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, leading Queensland trainer Tony Gollan has revealed he is thrilled with the condition on veteran sprinter Temple Of Boom ahead of his racing resumption in this weekend’s Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington.

Securing a commendable total of eleven race wins and a further fourteen minor places from his 51 competitive starts to date, Temple Of Boom has not been seen at the races since finishing a close second to River Lad in Queensland’s premier race, the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 7th.

Contesting three mid-pack finishes in Sydney before returning to Brisbane to win the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and finish second in both the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and the Stradbroke most notably, Gollan said the work produced by the Piccolo gelding in the lead-up to the Bobbie Lewis has been faultless, and is not fazed by the prospect of leaving from the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 20.

“He’s off career best winter form and he’s had an absolute perfect preparation,” Gollan told RSN.

“He rounded his work off at Eagle Farm on Tuesday morning and I couldn’t be more happy with where we have him.

“I don’t want to over think it too much, he has won drawn out very wide there up the straight and the first time we brought him down there I think he drew 18 and Corey Brown won on him over 1100.

“So that barrier does not hold any fear to me because the horse is in terrific condition.”

Finishing no worse than third in his first seven career starts through 2009, Temple Of Boom arguably hit career-best form over the autumn and winter of 2012; finishing a disappointing eighth in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1100m) and responding in the best way possible with a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) in late April.

Confirmed to be partnered by winter campaign jockey Tegan Harrison, Temple Of Boom has maintained status as tied fourth-favourite for success in Bobbie Lewis Quality betting markets, currently available at generous $10 for success with Ladbrokes.com.au.
