Saddling two leading chances in this weekend’s Rosehill Gardens feature, trainer Peter Moody has revealed he is particularly confident in the winning capabilities of classy filly Bring Me The Maid in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).
An impressive performer over her maiden preparation through the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Bring Me The Maid more than stamped her claims as a Golden Rose favourite when charging home to win the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) by close to two lengths first-up on August 23rd.
Having also confirmed in-form colt Better Land in the final field for the Golden Rose Stakes, Moody told Racing Victoria he has been very pleased with the condition and form of the Sebring filly in the lead-up to her second Group 1 appearance and is expecting a polished performance from the ideal barrier 6.
“Bring Me The Maid is just a real professional,” Moody said.
“The fillies seem to have had the wood on the colts, certainly during the two-year-old season.
“Everything’s very positive; she’s drawn well, she gets the fillies’ allowance, it all augurs well.
“I think the colt (Better Land) has slightly more ability, but the filly has the race smarts and the seasoning against the top level whereas he’s still learning the trade.
“They’ve both really benefited off the three-week break, I think it’s been crucial for their preparation.
“I would lean towards the filly for that reason but come back in six months’ time and it could quite easily be the opposite.”
Yet to finish outside the places in five competitive starts, Bring Me The Maid immediately announced her arrival upon debuting to racing in March; winning the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) first-up and continuing to build towards a strong win in the Group 1 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and credible third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).
Charging home to win a minor over 1100m by three lengths on debut, Better Land has successfully made the transition to black type racing this time in; finishing a close second in the Listed Rosebud (1200m) first-up before claiming a luckless fourth when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) last time out on August 23rd.
