Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Golden Rose Stakes has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting races on the Australian Racing Calendar and the 2014 edition of the race is set to be no different, with 15 talented three-year-olds set to contest the Group 1 event at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow.
The Golden Rose is the first Group 1 event of the 2014/2015 racing season in New South Wales and it is also the first event at the highest level of racing for this year’s crop of three-year-olds.
Peter Moody-trained Bring Me The Maid ($3.80) is a clear favourite in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes betting with leading online bookmaker Ladbrokes.com.au and the daughter of Sebring has been well-backed since the barrier draw was conducted on Tuesday.
Hallowed Crown drifted in betting markets after the barrier draw was conducted, but he has remained steady at a quote of $5.50; with punters confident that the Street Sense colt can overcome his wide barrier draw and replicated his fast-finishing victory in the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m).
Better Land ($7) has had no luck in his two race starts this preparation, but he has shown that he is capable of mixing in with the best three-year-olds in Australia, while both Nostradamus ($8.50) and Almalad ($9) are available at single figure odds, despite failing to fire on a heavy track in The Run To The Rose.
The Golden Rose is always a very open betting race and our team of horse racing experts have analysed the form for every single horse in the field to come up with our best 2014 Golden Rose Stakes tips.
2014 Golden Rose Stakes Tips
#3 Hallowed Crown ($5.50)
Hallowed Crown has recorded three wins from as many race starts and he has produced an improved performance every time that he has been seen at the races. The son of Street Sense beat a number of his Golden Rose rivals convincingly in The Run To The Rose and he gives the impression that the step-up to 1400 metres will suit. Hallowed Crown is one of the only horses in the field that has performed well on rain affected surfaces and the wide barrier draw should not be a problem.
#13 Bring Me The Maid ($3.80)
Bring Me The Maid is another horse that is a proven performer on a wet surface and she is the major danger to Hallowed Crown. The Sebring filly finished third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) as a juvenile and she seems to have taken another step this preparation. Fillies have a poor record in the Golden Rose, but based on her effortless win in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) she will be right in the finish.
#10 Shooting To Win ($15)
Shooting To Win worked his way into calculations with a strong performance in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) and the short back-up looks as though it will be ideal for the Northern Meteor colt. He is great each-way value at his current Golden Rose odds and should be included in all exotic bets.
