A particularly talented field of 16 three-year-olds have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington Racecourse, highlighted by the racing resumption of several exciting prospects for the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.
A standout performer over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, Brazen Beau has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in the 2014 Danehill Stakes; currently available at generous odds of $4.20 for success, ahead of Rich Enuff ($6.50), Galaxy Pegasus ($7.50) and Get The Nod ($8) at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will Brazen Beau justify his already resounding support from punters and win the 2014 Danehill Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
In what is without doubt one of the day’s most talent-filled fields, Awesome Rock will is faced with one of his biggest tests to date, but is an excellent chance of delivering on generous odds of $11, particularly with champion jockey Damien Oliver on board. Overcoming a forgettable run for seventh in a minor over 900m on debut, Awesome Rock charged home to win the Say It With Flowers Handicap (1300m) on February 26th before finishing a close second to Zululand in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on March 8th. Returning to racing for a fighting third in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) on August 30th, the Fastnet Rock colt will have to carry just 55kgs in the Danehill Stakes and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds.
Arguably Queensland’s most exciting three-year-old racing prospect, Looks Like The Cat is yet to finish outside the places in four competitive starts and is an excellent chance of delivering this weekend, particularly on generous $3.30 odds to run a place. Charging home to win the XXXX Gold 2.y.o Handicap (1200m) by two lengths on debut, the Husson gelding finished a close second to Brazen Beau in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 10th before finishing a credible third in both the Group 3 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) last time out on June 7th. Charged with overcoming the relatively awkward barrier 12, Looks Like The Cat will be partnered by regular jockey Damien Browne this weekend.
Arguably offering punters the best value for money of any runner confirmed for the 2014 Danehill Stakes, Cornrow has steadily built to the task over two starts this time in and appears ready to return to competitive form this weekend. Yet to break through for a race win, the Duporth colt has finished in the places in five of his nine starts, including all of the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m), Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) most notably through autumn. Confirmed to be partnered by renowned jockey Craig Williams for the first time competitively, punters may find value in back Cornrow to finish in the places at exceptional $10.50 odds.
