After opting not to run his Group 1 performed colt in Saturday’s Golden Rose in Sydney, Chris Waller will saddle-up the favourite Brazen Beau in the 2014 Danehill Stakes at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.
First-up as a three-year-old, I Am Invincible colt Brazen Beau is one of 16 three-year-olds facing off in this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on Makybe Diva Stakes Day.
Winner of the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) in Brisbane back in May he was last seen crossing just a long neck away second to Almalad in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m).
While rival Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse runs the JJ Atkins winner Almalad on a rain-affected Rosehill track in the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m), Waller gives Brazen Beau a firmer track and less distance in the Danehill.
They are both things the bookies are tipping the 2014 Caulfield Guineas hope to enjoy with Brazen Beau sitting top of the Danehill Stakes odds at $4.50 after firming in form $6.
There are then just three other runners in the field under $10 with:
- #5 Rich Enuff ($13 – Wide barrier 13 draw for Ken Keys’ Written Tycoon colt who comes off a tidy two and a quarter length win over Fast Cash in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley from August 23.
- #15 Galaxy Pegasus ($7.50) – Lightly-raced War Pass colt who caught the eye and earned this Group 2 start at his second run following a seven length effort over 1100m at Geelong on August 23.
- #3 Get The Nod ($8) – Shortest priced of the Danehill hopes in the futures markets at Ladbrokes for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) next month paying $11, this Lloyd Kennewell-trained US Ranger gelding has won both of his starts to date including at Caulfield on August 16 over Stingray in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m).
Outside of the top four for the Danehill are then the likes of McNeil Stakes third placegetter and Group 2 performer Awesome Rock ($11), the Tony Gollan-trained Queenslander Looks Like The Cat ($11) last seen running third in the JJ Atkins back home behind the Sydney raiders, 2014 Thousand Guineas bound filly Go Indy Go ($12) racing for the first time since her Group 1 Champagne Stakes win over Zululand over the 1600m at Randwick in late April and Nostradamus ($13).
The Team Hawkes’ San Domenico Stakes winner Nostradamus is also at a quote of $8.50 as one of four single figure fancies for the Golden Rose this weekend with connections on weather and track watch in Sydney to see whether or not he runs there or in Melbourne.
