2014 Thousand Guineas First Acceptances Feature 86 Fillies

Eighty-six three-year-old fillies including a host of Group 1 winners make up the first acceptances taken for the Thousand Guineas 2014 this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Held at Caulfield Racecourse on October 11 on the same day as the $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) which attracted 108 first acceptors, this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) is shaping up as a top showdown.

Heading the Thousand Guineas first acceptances and early favourite for this along with the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) in Sydney this Saturday at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Peter Moody-trained Bring Me The Maid.

She’s joined by a number of other already Group 1 proven fillies including Peggy Jean, Go Indy Go and Earthquake.

Group 1 Winning 2014 Thousand Guineas First Acceptors

  • Bring Me The Maid (Peter Moody) – Dual Group 2 winner in the wet most recently in the Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick on August 23. Also Group 1 performed when third to Mossfun and Earthquake in the Golden Slipper during the autumn and well liked to beat home the boys in this Saturday’s Golden Rose over 1400.
  • Go Indy Go (Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas) – Adelaide-based daughter of Bernardini won two on the trot in April including the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m at Randwick defeating Zululand and Kumaon – the form of which is holding up.
  • Peggy Jean (Gerald Ryan) – Myboycharlie filly beat Scratch Me Lucky at Randwick last season in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m and finished fifth in the Champagne Stakes. First-up finished fifth in the Furious Stakes over 1200m and will be better getting up to 1400m and above again.
  • Earthquake (John O’Shea) – Godolphin-owned daughter of Exceed And Excel won her opening four starts before suffering a loss in the wet when runner-up in the Golden Slipper. The Blue Diamond winner resumed last weekend in Sydney but first-up on another rain-affected track she went down as the odds-on favourite in the Furious Stakes finishing three lengths off the winner.

Go Indy Go is also one of three fillies that feature in the first declarations for both the Thousand Guineas and the Caulfield Guineas meanwhile along with the Chris Waller-trained duo of Amicus and Winx.

Upset Group 2 Furious Stakes winner Winx is the best fancied of that Waller pair and sits high up the Thousand Guineas betting markets with the daughter of Street Cry undefeated in her three starts so far.

Other fillies in the top half of those futures odds at Ladbrokes.com.au include the Team Hawkes-trained Ming Dynasty third placed Lady Sharapova, the Mark Kavanagh-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock Pickin’ Time and Brent Stanley’s black-type winning Northern Meteor filly Veuvelicious.

Notable non-acceptors at first declaration stage for the fillies’ classic meanwhile include More Radiant, Veloce Forte, Eloping who was third in the McEwen Stakes last Saturday when the world’s highest rated sprinter Lankan Rupee was defeated first-up and Golden Slipper champion Mossfun.

2014 Thousand Guineas second acceptances close on Tuesday September 23 followed by the release of the field the Tuesday before race day.

Make sure you have access to the hottest spring all-in markets including those on the two Guineas features by signing-up with Ladbrokes.com.au today and kicking things off with a generous $250 bonus sign-up bet on offer for new depositing players!
