One of the key support races on the Flemington program for Saturday, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) has attracted 17 early entries led by Commands four-year-old Gregers.

Group 1 performed six times already during her 15 start career the Robert Sangster Classic third past the post has had two runs for two wins this time in.

First-up she destroyed a field of her own kind over 1100m at Caulfield before stepping up in class for the Group 3 WW Cockram Stakes (1200m) back at the track on August 30.

Ridden by Craig Williams she finished a half length ahead of A Time For Julia after grabbing the lead over the final 100m in a solid effort connections will be hoping she repeats in another class rise here.

Also coming via the Cockram Stakes are the likes of third placegetter Commanding Jewel and Gai Waterhouse’s fourth placed Forever Loved.

Leon & Troy Corsten’s lightly raced 2012 Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel returned to racing in the Cockram on the back of a lengthy let-up not having raced since her victory over Catkins in last year’s Let’s Elope Stakes.

With just that one run in between she now shoots for back-to-back Let’s Elope wins to add a fifth win to her record at start number nine.

She’s nominated for both the $500,000 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) in Sydney on October 4 paying $21 through to win as well as the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) back in Melbourne three weeks later for which she’s at $26 to take out in an upset.

Forever Loved meanwhile is also second-up here off a close Cockram finish, the High Chaparral four-year-old also Group 1 performed.

She was third to Lucia Valentina, who returned last Saturday at Randwick to beat known mudlark Tiger Tees in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m), in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill before a fourth to Rising Romance over the mile and a half in the ATC Oaks on April 19.

Other highly rated mares in the mix for Saturday then include Michael Kent’s multiple Group winning seven-year-old Epingle, the Clarry Conners-trained Cockram Stakes fifth placed Dear Demi, Memsie Stakes graduate form last month Gig and Vinery Stud runner-up Solicit who returns to racing here.
