A capacity field of 14 starters plus four emergencies is accepted for this year’s $120,000 Listed Drummond Golf Stakes (1200m) set to run at 5:15pm.

Leading the field and weights with 58kg is the Mick Price-trained Le Bonsir, the Choisir seven-year-old racing for the first time since July.

Last time out the gelding was seventh behind Thiamandi in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on the back of a strong winter that included a Group 3 second behind Lord Of The Sky in the Sir John Monash Stakes.

Price has also accepted for the promising Lion Of Belfort.

Last year’s Blue Sapphire winner, the Statue Of Liberty stallion won three of his opening four career starts before a close third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington during the Cup Carnival in November.

He had two autumn runs in February but was well beaten in both before being turned out for a spring return where hopefully he bounces back.

Also high up the weights for the sprint showdown are then recent Aurie’s Star Handicap third placed Zamorar (57.5kg), Team Hawkes-trained Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Atlante (57kg) and the Chris Waller-trained Kencella (57kg).

While most of the field are first-up here a couple boast a fitness edge having had a previous run or two this season including Moonee Valley specialist Solsay for Michael Kent, Darren Weir’s last start Moonee Valley winning mare Trust In A Gust and the Peter Moody-trained Club Command.

Commands six-year-old Club Command returned to racing on August 16 at Caulfield in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) and was far from disgraced when third to Hard Stride.

The gelding’s second-up record is solid (4-0-1-2) making him a strong place chance for the weekend.

Moody has also accepted for the super consistent Spirits Dance, drawn in gate three with Linda Meech to ride.

The Statue Of Liberty mare won four on the trot in Melbourne during January and February including the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes and the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes but has had a long break between then and her four-year-old debut here.

Other notable Drummond Golf Stakes hopes include Electric Fusion for Robert Smerdon to be ridden by Craig Williams and Group 1 performed You’re So Good out wide with James Winks to ride.
