Sistine Demon to Target Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes

More than stamping his claims as one to watch over his memorable, most recent campaign, trainer Andrew Noblet has revealed talented gelding Sistine Demon will be set for the featured Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 28th.

Finishing no worse than fourth in ten proceeding starts last time in, Sistine Demon has not been seen at the races since beating just a single runner home in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 10th; a particularly disappointing result when considering his lead-up form.

Pleased with the way the son of Excites has returned to work, Noblet told AAP he has identified the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes as an ideal 2014 Spring Racing Carnival target for Sistine Demon, with a first-up appearance slated for the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington on September 13th.

“He looks a treat and is working well,” Noblet said.

“We want to give him a go in the Rupert Clarke, so if all is well that’s where he will go second-up.

“His only run up the straight was a bit disappointing as a younger horse, but he’s gone ahead since then.

“Hopefully he can put in a nice run there and then head to Caulfield where he seems to really enjoy it.”

Contesting a commendable total of eight race wins and four minor places over just 17 competitive starts so far, Sistine Demon returned to racing for second in the Hygain Handicap (1200m) on October 10th and continued to build ion form and class via an impressive run of five consecutive wins before finishing second in the Listed Kilmore Cup (1600m) on February 23rd.

Returning to the winner’s circle in the Listed Super Saturday Stakes (1400m) on March 8th, the gelding out of Famous Painter secured without doubt his most impressive race win to date on April 19th; charging home to find the line six lengths in the clear in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m); his only other competitive start prior to The Goodwood.
