Terravista Maintains Unbeaten First-Up Record In 2014 Show County Quality

Terravista has maintained his unbeaten first-up record with comfortable victory in the 2014 Show County Quality at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Trainer Joe Pride was confident that Terravista would have no trouble handling the wet Royal Randwick track and that proved to be the case; with the Captain Rio gelding working into the race strongly before showing an impressive turn-of-foot to score an effortless win from In Cahoots and Bull Point.

Pride said after the race that he expected Terravista to easily account for the 2014 Show County Quality field and he confirmed that the five-year-old would run in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Royal Randwick on September 20 and the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on October 4 before heading to Melbourne.

“He was cantering coming to the corner, but with all respect to his opposition he should take care of a field like that and it is nice to see him come back and do it,” Pride said.

“He has a couple more starts here in Sydney and then I will take him to Melbourne.

“He doesn’t have to run for another month yet.”

Hugh Bowman steered Rock Sturdy to victory for Pride in the opening race at Royal Randwick this morning and he gave Terravista a patient and well-timed ride in the Group 3 Show County Quality.

Like Pride, Bowman was heading into the Show County Quality full of confidence and he paid credit to the professional performance of the consistent galloper.

“With a couple of scratchings it was a lovely race for him, it was basically made up of middle distance horses resuming, while this guy is a sprinter/miler,” Bowman said.

“He handles the conditions which he showed and it was pretty straightforward today and obviously he has an exciting spring ahead.

“He travels sweet and the difference between this guy and Rock Sturdy is that Rock Sturdy is learning his trade and this guy from day one has been pretty much bulletproof.

“He is so beautiful to ride, he just puts himself there and waits for you to ask a question.

“Even on a heavy track he can put them away in a stride.”
