Rich Enuff will follow a path towards the 2014 Caulfield Guineas after he recorded an impressive victory in the 2014 McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley this afternoon.
Rich Enuff opened at the big odds of $41 in early McKenzie Stakes betting markets, but received a sprinkling of big bets heading into the Listed event and justified that support with an all the way win.
Trainer Ken Keys admitted that he was full of confidence heading into the McKenzie Stakes and he believes that the Written Tycoon colt has the ability to run out a strong 1600 metres in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 11.
“We have been dreaming for a little while,” Keys said.
“He showed us plenty during the autumn and he ran here and a few things didn’t go right and he was a bit shinny as well and he went to the spelling paddock.
“It is looking good because I think that he will go a mile and that is what we are hoping.
“We were expecting to win.
“He is very immature still in the brain and that has been one of our issues with barriers.
“Dwayne has come down and jumped him out for me a few times this period and I believe that he will improve mentally.
“There is obviously a standard preparation, but I really hadn’t planned too much from today.”
Dwayne Dunn has partnered Rich Enuff in a couple of jump outs heading into the McKenzie Stakes and said that he knew the three-year-old had plenty of talent, but is not a big fan of getting into the barriers.
The leading Melbourne jockey was impressed with the way that the three-year-old quickened off the hot early tempo in the McKenzie Stakes, but believes that he still has plenty of improvement in front of him.
“He is pretty good,” Dunn said.
“He just had to have a couple of soft little trials because we had a bit of trouble getting him into the barriers and getting his barrier certificate after his first start.
“That is the only thing that he has does wrong and everything else he has shown us that he is above average.
“That was my concern going into the home turn, that fitness was going to be a bit of question mark, but they were working hard outside of me and they were able to cruise.
“He relaxed really good down by the school and then really quickened nicely around the corner and off the bend.
“It is fantastic for Kenny because he does the hard yards and can always find a nice one.”
