2014 Warwick Stakes Day Scratchings & Track Report

2014 Warwick Stakes Day was set to feature the return of some of the best horses in Australia, but the wet weather that has bombarded Sydney all week has led to the scratching of a number of the winning chances in every single race.

The Royal Randwick track is currently rated a heavy 9 and with plenty of rain still about Sydney, there is a chance that the track could be downgraded to a heavy 10 during the meeting.

There have been scratchings from every race at Royal Randwick this afternoon and betting markets for feature events like the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) have changed dramatically in the last 24 hours.

The wet weather has made picking the winner of the Warwick Stakes ever more difficult, but leading online bookmaker Ladbrokes.com.au is giving punters some insurance by refunding bets placed on the horse that finishes second in the Group 2 event.

Royal Randwick Track Report

  • Weather: Overcast
  • Track Conditions: Heavy 9
  • Penetrometer: 6.06
  • Rail: True
  • Previous Rail: +6m Entire Circuit (9/8/2014)

The 2014 Warwick Stakes was set to feature a very strong field and there is still plenty of talent in the race despite the scratchings of Boban, Laser Hawk, Messene and Dissident.

The most high profile scratching in the Silver Shadow Stakes is that of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake, while Group 1 winners Dear Demi and Lucia Valentina have both been removed from the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m).
