Eleven youngsters make up the field for this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Synergy FX Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) that runs as Randwick Race 3 at 1:5pm.

Current $4.40 favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au is Peter Moody’s 2014 Golden Rose bound Shamardal colt Better Land racing second-up after finishing runner-up in the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at the track on August 9.

Following closely in the Up And Coming Stakes betting markets are then The Rosebud winner Scissor Kick ($5) shooting for three straight wins this time in and the John O’Shea-trained Meursault ($5.50).

So are these three the ones you should lock into your Up And Coming Stakes trifecta bets?

Or is there value to be found outside the dominant trio from the likes of market mover Liberation ($7) from the Gai Waterhouse stables or his returning stablemate Valentia ($9)?

#7 Better Land ($4.40)

Sticking with the favourite who is still at a good price to win, Better Land has form in the wet having won on debut at Sale during the autumn on a Heavy (8) by three lengths and should enjoy the give out of the track at Randwick this weekend. Also has form in Sydney when runner-up in resuming run at Randwick in The Rosebud. Under a length off Scissor Kick that day and should be better for the run.

#2 Kumaon ($11)

Rails drawn and Sydney’s ace hoop James McDonald for this Godolphin-owned Lonhro colt bred for big things. Won on debut back in December and has been up against the best of this crop. Runner-up on a Heavy (9) in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) first-up in March and twice Group 1 performed since then when sixth to Peggy Jean in the Sires and third to Go Indy Go in the Champagne Stakes. Will be better up over more ground later on but the conditions will suit as does Randwick.

#1 Valentia ($9)

Second widest gate for Waterhouse’s Fastnet Rock colt but on a bog track that’s not a bad thing. Failed in the Golden Slipper in the wet last start in April but has twice won on Dead going at Randwick including his Group 2 Skyline Stakes success in mid-March. Trial form has been very good leading up to the weekend including a win at the track so should be ready to go, just needs to handle the ground.
