Terravista Heads 2014 Show County Quality Odds

Joe Pride has another good line-up of runners on Warwick Stakes Day this weekend including the clear favourite to win the Show County Quality 2014Terravista.

First-up for the new season, Captain Rio five-year-old Terravista is one of 11 hopefuls making up the field for this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick Racecourse.

Drawn in barrier seven with Hugh Bowman to ride, the gelding pays $2.80 through Ladbrokes.com.au in their latest Show County Quality odds with Terravista boasting an undefeated first-up record.

A winner of all three of his resuming runs to date, he is out to continue that trend in his first run since an 11th behind Gordon Lord Byron in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill back in March.

Drawn wide (barrier 12 of 15) that day Terravista suffered heat stress and was caught wide so Pride, and the bookies, are willing to forgive him that run.

Before the Group 1 he enjoyed back-to-back Group 3 wins in Sydney and it is that form he’s out to emulate on Saturday against an easier field than last time out.

There are then four other single figure chances in the Show County Quality odds with:

  • #11 Cluster ($4.80) – Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Fastnet Rock four-year-old in flying form with back-to-back wins earlier in the winter, most recent was over 1200m at Rosehill on July 19, poor trail behind Rain Affair since but will improve over this distance where he has won two from three
  • #9 Bull Point ($9) – Early market mover for Chris Waller, Group 3 Manfred Stakes winner at Caulfield in February and fourth next run in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes behind Moment Of Change, failed when dead last over the mile in the Randwick Guineas however but back over this trip (52-1-0) should be better and are undefeated first-up (2-2-0-0)
  • #10 In Cahoots ($7) – Wide barrier 10 draw for this Broadmeadow-based Bradbury’s Luck gelding, the four-year-old was in top form during the autumn with two wins, a second and a third from four runs including their Gosford Guineas win in the mud on a Heavy (10) and a third to Sidestep in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes, two nice trials on wet tracks at Newcastle before this most recently a 950m win to get them fired-up, resuming record is also ace with three wins from four starts
  • #8 Whittington ($9.50) – Another Waller hope, Tale Of The Cat four-year-old ran eighth in the Gosford Guineas last start on April 6 before which he finished fifth to Tiger Tees in the Group 1 The Galaxy, Magic Millions Sprint winner on the Gold Coast in January and two Sydney trials to get him race fit for Saturday

Other notable hopes at more generous odds with genuine claims then include James McDonald’s Group 2 winning mount Ninth Legion ($12), the Gerald Ryan-trained Oakfield Commands ($15) coming off two wins from his past three starts and Waller’s smart import Our Voodoo Prince ($17) who won all three of their opening Australian starts last prep – drawn in barriers two through to four respectively.
