Soaked Track to Suit Tiger Tees in Warwick Stakes

Breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing over a memorable 2014 Autumn preparation, trainer Joe Pride is confident of second-up success for classy sprinter Tiger Tees in this weekend’s featured Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick, on what is likely to be a heavily rain-affected track.

Securing an impressive total of 12 race wins and five minor places from just 28 competitive starts so far, Tiger Tees was a standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, building off an impressive victory in the Listed Falvelon (1200m) in Brisbane first-up with a relatively comfortable win in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) most notably on March 29th.

Securing a good first-up win in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on August 9th, Pride he is confident of Tiger Tees ability and chances in this weekend’s Randwick feature.

“I’m going there this year with a live chance; he’s got the conditions to suit, he’s a real bulldog and you can never discount him,” Pride told The Daily Telegraph.

“I would say he’s two lengths to three lengths better in the wet.

“Tiger’s ability to handle the track will keep him in this race for a long time, and he does have a place in an All Aged Stakes.

“You’d like to hope the others won’t want to get into a dogfight early; they’ll be happy for the race to unfold and that might be to Tiger’s advantage – if he can get a steady first section in the race he can have that turn of foot on a wet track to get a break on them.”

“I thought we may have been forced to wait for a race like the Concorde Stakes, or travel to Melbourne again. Once it’s wet, it really opens things up. The last thing I expected was for a wet track in Sydney.”

Lining up alongside eight other Group 1 winners in this weekend’s 2014 Warwick Stakes, Tiger Tees is currently available at generous odds of $7.50 for success, or $2.40 to run a place with leading online bookie
