Eloping Likely to Resume in Furious Stakes

Performing well over her maiden racing preparation through the 2014 Autumn Carnival, trainer Peter Morgan has revealed talented three-year-old Eloping may return to racing north of the border in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on September 6th.

Contesting a commendable total of four wins and one minor places from eight race starts so far, Eloping has not been seen at the races since running on for fourth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben Racecourse in the early stages of the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Performing well over three states in her debut campaign, Morgan told AAP he is pleased with the way the Choisir filly has taken to her return to work, highlighted by a strong barrier trial win at Cranbourne on Tuesday morning.

“She might go there,” Morgan said of the Furious Stakes.

“Because she trialled so well, what we’ll do is go home and tomorrow we might map something out.

“We haven’t set anything for her yet because we wanted to find out whether she had come up. The way she trialled this morning, I think she’s pretty well right.”

Stamping her claims as one to watch from her very first appearance on course, Eloping won the BJC Members Celebration Maiden (900m) and Listed Blue Diamond Preview F (1000m) first-up before placing second to standout filly Earthquake in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th.

Running on for a credible fourth amongst classy competition in the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) on March 1st, the filly out of Runaway Jesse returned to the winner’s circle in the Gold Rush 2.y.o (1000m) in Bendigo before running hard for seventh in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th; winning the Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Champagne Classic.

While yet to be confirmed for a path through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Eloping is currently available at generous odds of $26 to win the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 11th with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
