Eleven Confirmed for 2014 Show County Quality

A talented field of just eleven runners have been confirmed to line up at Royal Randwick this weekend to contest the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m), highlighted by several standout performers over the 2014 Australian racing calendar so far.

Returning to racing in excellent condition this time in, Peter & Paul Snowden have accepted a position in the final field of the 2014 Show County Quality for talented four-year-old Cluster (barrier 5).

Securing a total of two race wins and two minor places from just eight competitive starts so far, Cluster began his racing career under the guidance of trainer Anthony Cummings before transferring to the care of the Snowdens at the beginning of their training partnership two months ago.

Unable to string together much of a consistent run of form over the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, the Fastnet Rock entire finished second in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) first-up before managing only mid-pack finishes in both the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) and Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Running on to finish third in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) on September 27th, Cluster returned to the paddock after failing to fire and tenth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 12th.

Charging home to win the ITC Members Race Day Plate (1200m) by ten lengths first-up this year, Cluster more than stamped his claims as one to watch through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival when comfortably beating a classy field which included Rock Sturdy in the Forum Group BM80 (1200m) last time out on July 19th.

As expected, trainer Chris Waller is poised to dominate the 2014 Show County Quality, accepting positions in the final field for five of his stables stars, including Moriarty (barrier 11), Junoob (barrier 6) and Our Voodoo Prince.

A particularly notable performer for Waller in claiming 11 race wins and 12 minor places from 44 starts, Moriarty was a standout over the 2014 autumn and winter carnivals, overcoming a disappointing run for eighth in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) first-up with a hard-fought third in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) and fourth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

Maintain mid-pack finishes through black type races in Sydney; the Clodovil gelding was sent to Brisbane for the Winter Racing Carnival and experienced a resurgence in top-level form; winning the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) and finishing second in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) most recently.

One of Australian racing’s most consistent performers over the 2013 spring/2014 autumn, Junoob has been confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Blake Shinn in the 2014 Show County Quality.

Contesting a similar path to Moriarty through autumn, the Haafhd gelding won both the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) and Group 3 Neville Sellwood Open (2000m) in Sydney before travelling to Queensland for fourth in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) and third in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) most recently.

Winning each of his three starts since arriving in the care of Waller from his native Great Britain, Our Voodoo Prince has been confirmed to target the major Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) this time in, and is currently featured on the third line of betting for success.

Allocated the ideal barrier 4 for this weekend’s Group 3, Waller is confident the Kingmambo gelding will kick-off his 2014 spring campaign in style.
