Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Performing well over six starts through her maiden racing preparation over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, trainer Brent Stanley has revealed talented classy three-year-old Veuvelicious is on track for a return to racing this month after pleasing in a Cranbourne barrier trial on Tuesday morning.
Securing a total of two race wins and as many minor places from her six starts so far, Veuvelicious has not been seen at the races since finishing off the pace of champion Go Indy Go in sixth in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 26th.
Confirming the featured Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 6th as the major target for the Northern Meteor filly through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Stanley told Racing Victoria he will continue preparing Veuvelicious slowly, revealing the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Caulfield Classic (2000m) may also figure.
“She’s being trained on a staying preparation so I’m just bringing her along slowly but she trialled really well against some nice fillies and made up nice ground while staying comfortably within herself,” Stanley said.
“Damien (Oliver, jockey) said she’s definitely on the right path and she gave him a great feel.
“I’ll see how she’s going but there are plenty of options for her to head into the Oaks.
“She can run in the Thousand Guineas, she can run in the Caulfield Classic which is now worth $750,000 but we’ll just see how she’s going, she’ll probably have her fifth run in the Oaks.”
Disappointing when eighth in the Quest Moonee Valley F (1000m) on debut on Februarty 14th, Veuvelicious steadily built in form and class via two good performances in minor sprint events through march before finishing third in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) on Golden Slipper day and winning the Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) by nearly three lengths on Day 2 of The Championships.
Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best early odds on the 2014 Crown Oaks, for which Veuvelicious is available at a generous quote of $9 for success; featuring as sole occupant of the second line of betting.
