Sabatini Secures Impressive Quezette Stakes Win

Offered little chance of success in markets prior to the Caulfield race for three-year-old fillies, exciting prospect Sabatini has displayed an impressive final straight sprint to pip resounding pre-post favourite Royal Snitzel on the line in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) this afternoon.

Jumping from the gates only fairly, Sabatini settled within the pack, following a reasonable tempo set by the likes of Sunset Rock, Empress O’reilly and Royal Snitzel approaching and rounding the bend.

Finding a clear racing line upon reaching the final straight, the Street Cry filly quickly spooled up and charged within striking distance of Royal Snitzel; poking a short nose clear only metres from the line to secure an impressive race win.

Understandably thrilled with Sabatini’s performance in the 2014 Quezette Stakes, trainer Shannon Hope said he was always confident of a first-four finish on the back of the three-year-olds strong recent work.

“The way things panned out it was a great ride, but I honestly thought she’d be in the first four and that’s why we’re here,” Hope said immediately after the Quezette Stakes.

“She’s fit and well and might be just flying under the radar a little bit.

“We’ve thrown her in the deep end and the barriers made the difference on where we were going, whether we were going to run or not, but just see what comes we’ll see how she pulls up.”

Sabatini has well and truly flown under the radar since first appearing on course in late July, but has well and truly stamped her claims as one to watch in finishing a close second in the First Light Racing Bonus Maiden (1000m) on debut on July 24th before breaking through for a maiden race win when finishing four lengths in the clear of Lindendoom in the Hindsight Club Raceday Maiden (1100m0 in her two starts prior to this afternoon’s triumph.

Yet to be confirmed for a specific path through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Sabatini’s proven ability against several notable three-year-olds will allow Team Hope legitimate consideration of a Group 1 berth.
