A standout performer over her maiden racing preparation through autumn, jockey Dwayne Dunn is confident in a successful first-up performance from talented three-year-old in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield this afternoon.
Finishing outside the places just once in four starts through notable two-year-old events in autumn, London Lolly overcame impressive fields to claim back-to-back victories leading into her time in the spelling paddock and has reportedly taken well to her return to work at Team Hawkes’ Flemington stables.
Yet to partner the Charge Forward filly competitively, Dunn told AAP he has been thrilled with his rides on London Lolly through her recent work and is expecting a typically classy performance in the 2014 Quezette Stakes against a relatively strong field.
“If you look on paper and don’t look at what she’s beaten, it would be easy to say she has taken soft options and might have lucked out,” Dunn said.
“You would have thought at the time it was probably the easy option to go through that grade but you never know what you are going to run into sometimes.”
Yet to be trialled over 1200m competitively, Dunn conceded it will not be until a few runs in that London Lolly will find her ideal distance and condition.
“I think she’s more of a speed filly and I don’t know how far she can be stretched and her speed is her asset,” Dunn said.
“We’ll probably need to see her have a couple of runs in before we determine what her right distance is.”
Debuting with a credible fourth amongst classy competition in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview F (1000m) on January 25th, London Lolly overcame poor running position to finish second in the Quest Moonee Valley Maiden (1000m) on February 14th before breaking through for a maiden victory when beat a field which included Golden Slipper third Bring Me The Maid in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) and repeating the dose when beating subsequent Group 1 champion Go Indy Go to the line in the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) on March 29th.
Allocated the slightly wide barrier 8, London Lolly is currently available at generous odds of $5.50 for success in the Quezette Stakes first-up this afternoon with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
