Get The Nod Secures Impressive Vain Stakes Victory

Continuing his perfect career start with an impressive sprint at Caulfield this afternoon, exciting three-year-old Get The Nod has more than stamped his claims as one to watch through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival in charging home to win the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) this afternoon.

Leaving from the gates well, Get The Nod settled well within the pack and allowed early leaders Boomwaa and punters’ pick Nordic Empire to set a notably quick tempo over the back straight.

Appearing out of contention when blocked for a run early in the final straight, jockey Joe Bowditch delivered an exceptional ride in steering the U S Ranger gelding through the field, reaching Nordic Empire within the 100m and poking clear to secure a memorable victory.

Understandably thrilled with Get The Nod’s performance in the 2014 Vain Stakes, trainer Lloyd Kennewell went as far as saying the three-year-old is the best horse he has trained yet, and is confident of a standout spring racing carnival.

“This is the best horse I’ve had; he’s an absolute star,”

“I don’t say that lightly but he’s as good as we’ve got and as good as we’ve had and we’ve known that for a long, long time and that’s why he was put straight away after he won shin-sore.

“He’s a serious horse, so very happy and really looking forward to where he’ll head to next.”

Jockey Joe Bowditch delivered a sensational ride on Get The Nod in the 2014 Vain Stakes, and echoed Kennewell’s sentiments of the talented gelding.

“We worked him with a couple of handy ones on Tuesday and me and Lloyd were of the same opinion; I came back and he said ‘what do you think?’ and I said ‘I think he’s the best horse we’ve got’, and he came out today and showed his class,” Bowditch said following the Vain Stakes.

“Probably still didn’t have the nicest run – he drew a little bit awkward and was three wide with no cover for most of the trip and four wide round the corner, but he took it to them pretty quick.

“It was nice to get something here today.”

Yet to be confirmed for a path through the Spring Racing Carnival, Kennewell’s wrap of Get The Nod suggests Group 1 features may figure as the major targets this time in.
